Quality vs Quantity, or Neither?

I've been bothered by this for some time. I feel like I am being cheated as a consumer. For instance, I buy the cheap brand (maybe that's my problem, but I doubt it) of "Nutri Grain Bars" for breakfast. When they first came out, they were long, wide, and thick. Now, they are two bites worth in length, skinny and thin. Oh, but the wrapper is still the same length as when they first came out.

Then Dreyer's ice cream took a step back. They shrunk their cartons, which means you don't get as much ice cream anymore. Now, doesn't it seem only ethical that if you don't get as much product as you once did, you should be able to pay less for it? Well, you pay more - for less!

And have you seen what the gum factory is doing? They now give you 15 sticks in a pack as opposed to the 17 you used to get.

Chips and cereal make up HALF the bag. The other half is AIR!!! I'm pretty sure I shouldn't have to pay for air. Outside the bag, air is free.

Corndogs aren't nearly as long as they used to be and they're no longer covered in a bunch of batter.

So, while all this "smaller quantities" is going on, are we still getting our quality? I would venture to answer with a resounding NO. I feel that factories and assembly lines aren't able to make quality. I feel that the "Big Dog" at the company would rather fill his bags with air to spread the product further. The less product they make the more they spread, the less they spend on making product, the more money they make and keep for themselves.

It's an awful place we've come to as consumers. In the future I might have to make my own breakfast bars.

If you start making your own breakfast bars, send some along to me. I bet they'll taste way better than Nutrigrain.

And you're right. It bugs me, too, ESPECIALLY THE ICE CREAM.

Hey Leslie...I am so glad you found my blog, now we can keep in touch. You'll have to send me your email because sometime I make my blog private...only for like a week at a time, and when I feel like it, but anyways..how are you guys doing? I just have to say Amen, to your last post...we are totally getting cheated by the market. Crazy. I have to ask you...Is there a bun in your oven or what? I haven't read all your old posts so I don't know if you mentioned anything about that. Motherhood is wonderful. I love it. It is so tough at times though. Grant is doing good here is chiropractic school. He loves it and now has a little less than 3 years left. I cant wait to one day make some money. Keep me posted on you guys..miss ya...Heather

The chips one is the one that irritates me the most. I would like a full bag of chips PLEASE. Really, I don't think we're asking too much!
